2nd Grade Teacher

I get up set when my family member's, friends, and other people say that "you teachers have it so easy."
My friend told me this yesterday. Then he gave me reasons why for example, we get off all holidays, we always have Saturday and Sunday off etc. I blow up in his face and told him that he was a sh*t head. his response back was "those who cannot do teach." I responded "You cannot do anything without beinging taught therefore you would be a do nothing without us teacher."
It makes me so mad when people tell me teacher have it "easy". I would love to see those people go into a teacher and control 26 children and teach then at same time. Most people don't' understand what teachers go through. Yes, some school are "easier" but everyone faces there own obstacles. For example, last year there were 16 boys in my class and 8 girls. Having more boys in a class is an obstacle with in itself. However have 12 of those 24 children who have been held over once or twice makes it more difficult.
I was trying to explain this to my friend but he wasn't seeing it my way. So I invited him to my classroom and i told him he could teach a lesson. He told me " F no, you must be crazy i don't want to work with those children, i don't even wanna take care of my own most times."

Alexandira, please learn to spell your name correctly. haha. but I do agree with you that it was very wrong of your friend to say that teachers have it easy. Many people think that though and that is so such a shame. We do work very hard and we do need to have a certain personality and character to teach. We make all other professions happen. Stand up for yourself girl! Have a great day!!!!

I agree...my cousins work downtown in finance and such, and they constantly rag on me for what an easy job I have. Are you kidding? We are juggling so many tasks as a teacher, and we don't even get a bathroom break half the time. They go out, party, go into the work next day (without an exact time they have to be in), and can put their head down on their desk and tune everyone out. And I HAVE IT EASY??????!! HA!

Glad to hear that you stood up to your friend. If he has never spent anytime in a classroom he has no idea what your day is like. Before becoming a teacher I worked in business for several years and your friend is right the two don't compare.....teaching is more difficult!!! I can't close my classroom door and put my head down.
